Although there are thousands of fonts out there, you can really only use a few (at least until CSS3 is fully compatible with all major browsers). Try to stick to web-safe fonts. If you don't like web-safe fonts, consider a progressively improved web design that uses SiFR or Cufon. Perhaps one of the things that web designers often get wrong about is the size of the fonts.
Because we want to include as much text as possible on a web page, we sometimes set font sizes to awkward and small sizes. Try to keep font sizes equal to or greater than 12 pixels if possible, especially for paragraph text. With multiple WYSIWYG editors flooding the market, designing a site has become as simple as counting to three. However, most of these publishers insert junk code unnecessarily, which makes the HTML structure poorly designed, more difficult to maintain and update, and causes file sizes to increase.
By writing the code yourself, you get a clean, crisp, concise code that's a pleasure to read and maintain; a code you can be proud to call your own. Web developers work with programming languages such as HTML, CSS and Javascript to create websites and web applications. Web designers must be attentive to details and be able to offer solutions to customer challenges. And after a website is launched, web designers often participate in additional testing of the site, collecting user feedback and then reiterating the design.
As a designer, you should be familiar with the necessary tools, such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, to help you navigate the design canvas. This iterative problem-solving process is similar to the UX design process (shown in the following image). You have to know what's happening to create effective, semantic and highly optimized web designs. Also, while it can be great to create a new interface design concept or pattern for your website, make sure that the design remains accessible and intuitive for your users.
A good developer and designer will show their skills and experience to future employers and customers, but they can use different services to do so. The software application integrates digital asset management of embedded graphics, web designs, video-audio files and programming codes. Web designers are not primarily responsible for knowing how the code works, but for ensuring that it is aesthetically pleasing and easy to use for website visitors. The Interaction Design Foundation also offers networking opportunities for both members and non-members.
Even more important than using these resources is to create a personal portfolio site where you can showcase your work. The need for digital designers is growing exponentially, and here's a list of the most in-demand digital designers. They will use graphic design software that includes products such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Inkscape (a great alternative to Photoshop) and GIMP.
